Film Fest Gent wants to turn the spotlight on the rich tradition of British film music in response to our Focus on British cinema. The concert, GREAT BRITISH FILM MUSIC held on 22 October at the Bijloke, is an anthology consisting of work of some of the most prominent classical and contemporary film composers, who have contributed greatly to the aura and popularity of British cinema.

The book Moving Music (available in Dutch and English) includes around 20 interviews with prominent composers. Next to roaring names such as Ennio Morricone, Howard Shore, Elmer Bernstein and the late Georges Delerue, a lot of Belgian composers are being discussed.
Why was 'Shakespeare in Love' so moving and 'Gladiator' so impressive? Film music indeed. But who are these songwriters actually? Where did Howard Shore get his inspiration for 'Lord of the Rings'? How could Nicola Piovani connect his creativity to the images of 'La Vita è bella'? The conversations are richly illustrated by familiar footage and unique images from the private archives of the composers themselves.
The full-CD that is included, contains lovely film scores by Georges Delerue and George Fenton from films such as 'Anna and the King', 'You’ve got mail', 'Land and Freedom', 'Dangerous Liaisons', 'Jules et Jim'…
