Mark Crawford
Mark Crawford is a Primetime Emmy-nominated composer and music producer who has traveled the world producing and scoring films. He’s been an integral part of films that have been nominated and/or won Prime-time Emmys, News and Doc Emmys, Heartland Emmys, Sports Emmys, Sundance Awards, BAFTAs, and Peabody Awards.
Most notably, he is the sole composer for the feature length Emmy-nominated documentary The Social Dilemma, which premiered at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival and 38 million households chose to watch the film in its first 28 days on Netflix. Mark was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award, ASCAP Composer’s Choice Award, for the critically-acclaimed film.
Making it’s international and US premiers at Hot Docs and Seattle International Film Festival is Chasing Time, a followup to 2012’s groundbreaking documentary Chasing Ice. Mark co-composed the score with director Jeff Orlowski-Yang and co-wrote the credit song “Only Time" which features vocalists MILCK and Raye Zaragoza.
In 2023, Mark scored the film Full Circle (now available on Netflix), recording with some of the most incredible musicians living with disabilities and learning about their stories. World-renowned jazz pianist Justin Kauflin, virtuoso violinist Brian Krinke, famed trumpet played Patrick Henry Hughes, superhuman percussionist Jason Barnes, and grammy-winning guitarist and rock star Eric Howk brought their own personal journeys to the score- backed by Pretium Scoring’s 24-piece string ensemble from Vienna, Austria. The film was nominated for a 2024 Sports Emmy.
The same year Mark also scored the award-winning documentary Greener Pastures which premiered on PBS’s Independent Lens. The film is an urgent and intimate look at American farming, told through the stories of farmers living at the intersection of climate change, industrialization & a mental health crisis.
Previously, his credits include additional music for the award-winning feature documentaries Chasing Coral (2017) and Chasing Ice (2012), Classic, which premiered at the Denver Film Festival in 2019, and the multi-Audience Award-winning short documentary, The Love Bugs, which premiered on PBS’s POV. In 2021, Crawford’s score for The Love Bugs was nominated for a News & Documentary Emmy Award for Outstanding Music Composition. His music and film work have also been included in programs featured on National Geographic, California Academy of Science, Harvard Kennedy School, Nike Foundation, and Fast Company.
