Ralf Wengenmayr
Born in Germany, Ralf Wengenmayr studied piano and composition at the university of Augsburg, but is mostly self-taught having studied scores of major classical works.
In 1984 he began performing as a solo and bar pianist, until he joined the "Original Broadway Show Company“, playing the "West Side Story“ European Tour in 1987.
In 1989, Wengenmayr won the top prize at the German Film Score Competition in Berlin which led to consistent score work in film and television. ERKAN & STEFAN (2000) marked the beginning of his successful collaboration with German director Michael Bully Herbig. Original scores for other Herbig films like LISSI AND THE WILD EMPEROR (2007) and WICKIE THE MIGHTY VIKING (2009) followed, including the two most popular movies of German film history, MANITOU’S SHOE (2001) and DREAMSHIP SURPRISE - PERIOD 1 (2004). Wengenmayr also composed the original score for Christian Ditter’s 3D family adventure WICKIE AND THE TREASURE OF THE GODS (2011) and LOVE, ROSIE, featuring Lily Collins and Sam Claflin.
In addition to three nominations at the German Film Awards for Best Soundtrack, composer Ennio Morricone awarded his music for Leander Haußmann’s HOTEL LUX (2011) with the "Marc Aurelio Jury Prize“ at the Rome International Film Festival. His scores for Dennis Gansel`s JIM BUTTON AND THE WILD 13 (2020) and DER BOANDLKRAMER UND DIE EWIGE LIEBE (2021) by Joseph Vilsmaier mark his latest works of more than 60 tv- and feature films.
