Film Fest Gent and Courtisane present: Simon Fisher Turner 27 Feb 2025
Film Fest Gent is once again joining forces with Courtisane, bringing the work of British composer and musician Simon Fisher Turner to the forefront. During Courtisane festival 2025 - from April 2 to 6 in Ghent - Simon Fisher Turner will perform at two different concerts, and several films will be screened as part of the program Derek Jarman: Archeologies of Soul and Sound, dedicated to the work of Derek Jarman and Simon Fisher Turner.
Festival album 'Elliot Goldenthal: Music for Film' honoured with prestigious IFMCA Award 28 Feb 2025
Film Fest Gent is proud to announce that its 2024 album Elliot Goldenthal: Music for Film has been honoured with the Archival Award at the 21st IFMCA (International Film Music Critics Association) Awards. The award was presented by the IFMCA, an esteemed association of film music critics, in recognition of this album, which showcases the career-spanning work of American composer Elliot Goldenthal.
Debbie Wiseman is guest of honour at 25th World Soundtrack Awards 10 Mar 2025
Film Fest Gent is proud to welcome British composer Debbie Wiseman, one of the most prolific film and television composers of her time, as guest of honour of the 25th edition of the World Soundtrack Awards. Wiseman’s work can be heard in staples of British cinema such as Tom & Viv, To Olivia and Wilde, and also in British television series like Wolf Hall, Father Brown and Judge John Deed. Wiseman is also known for her regular collaborations with British directors Peter Kosminsky, John Hay, Brian Gilbert, Simon Hunter and the late Lewis Gilbert. Her work has been recognized with wins and nominations at the Grammys and the Ivor Novello Awards. Wiseman has been Composer in Residence at the UK's number 1 classical music station Classic FM since 2015.
Lifetime Achievement Award for Philip Glass 05 Apr 2025
American composer Philip Glass will be celebrated with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the film music concert Minimalism in Motion: Glass, Nyman and Beyond which will close Film Fest Gent’s Film Music Days 2025 and the 25th World Soundtrack Awards. While initially renowned for his work for opera and his symphonies, Glass has made an equally impressive contribution to film music, with a rich oeuvre of film scores that include Koyaanisqatsi, Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters, The Truman Show, Kundun, The Hours and Notes on a Scandal.
