WSA 2015
This year’s World Soundtrack Awards Ceremony & Concert takes place on the 24th of October 2015, at ‘t Kuipke in Ghent. For this edition’s tribute concert, we welcome the world-renowned Alan Silvestri as our guest of honour. The Lifetime Achievement Award is presented to Patrick Doyle for his incredible career and his tremendous impact on the art of film music. Their scores, along with three excerpts from film scores by the 2014 Discovery Award winner Daniel Pemberton, are performed by Brussels Philharmonic and the Flemish Radio Choir and conducted by maestro Dirk Brossé.
On the 22nd of October, Film Fest Gent and the World Soundtrack Academy celebrate the rich tradition of British film music through the concert Great British Film Music at De Bijloke. Nearly every roaring name of British film music will pass the lineup, ranging from William Walton to John Barry, from George Fenton to Michael Nyman. During this concert, George Fenton receives a Lifetime Achievement Award and is joined by composers Michael Nyman, Stephen Warbeck, and Craig Armstrong.
During the Industry Day on the 23rd of October, the festival unites both young composers and film music industry professionals as they enjoy various panel discussions with film music professionals about ‘hot’ topics within the industry. The Industry Day also offers a series of general introduction sessions by representatives of SABAM, Playright, and many other professional associations. Other events include a WSA Press Conference, Meet & Greet, and the British Film Music Seminar, which offers a conversation with George Fenton, alongside Daniel Pemberton and Craig Armstrong, about the difference between collaborations for British and North American productions.
