At the WSA Ceremony & Concert composers Carter Burwell and Philippe Sarde are honoured for their unique voice in the film music scene. Their music, as well as two excerpts from film scores by Discovery of the Year 2017 Nicholas Britell, are performed by Brussels Philharmonic and conducted by maestro Dirk Brossé. On 18 October the film music concert 2001 and Beyond: A Symphonic Odyssey, focusses on scores of films set in space, in celebration of the 50th birthday of Stanley Kubrick's masterpiece. Brussels Philharmonic, conducted by maestro Dirk Brossé, takes you to space and beyond, with music from films such as The Martian, Alien and Star Wars, topped off with the first ever live performance of John Powell’s score for Solo: A Star Wars Story.
During the Industry Day both young and established international film (music) professionals can network, learn, and debate, about topics such as 'the reality of rejected scores', 'scoring for new media' and 'orchestration & building your own sound ID'. Other captivating events include the Film Music & Sound Seminar, with talks from Nicholas Britell, Carter Burwell and sound designer Skip Lievsay, a Masterclass Sound Mixing and Editing by Val Kuklowsky, Professional Matchmaking for composers and internationally established film music professionals, and the annual Meet & Greet.
