During the 19th edition of the Word Soundtrack Awards not one, but two Lifetime Achievement Awards are presented: to Polish avant-garde composer Krzysztof Penderecki and to the father of Belgian film music Frédéric Devreese.

Our film music concert this year is centered around an often underrated genre: the intellectual horror film. On the 17th of October 2019, Brussels Philharmonic performs Hollywood Nightmares: Scary Symphonic Scores, conducted by maestro Dirk Brossé. Guest of honour is Marco Beltrami, whose music is played live on stage during both the Scary Symphonic Scores-concert and the World Soundtrack Awards Concert & Ceremony.

Besides Beltrami's groundbreaking work, the annual World Soundtrack Awards Concert & Ceremony, taking place on the 18th of October at Capitole Ghent, features music from both upcoming and established composers. Brooklyn-born independent artist and composer Tamar-kali passes the torch of Discovery of the Year on to Michael Abels, following Brussels Philharmonic's performance of her work. For their impressive careers, Frédéric Devreese and Krzysztof Penderecki are honoured with the World Soundtrack Lifetime Achievement Award.

Offering a sneak peak behind the curtains of the film music industry, Icelandic composer Hildur Guðnadóttir talks with Robert Kraft about her work during a unique Composer’s Talk. This year she takes home the Award for Television Composer of the Year. Marco Beltrami and Michaël R. Roskam sit together for a Creative Partnership Talk, and the yearly Meet & Greet includes Daniel Pemberton, Segun Akinola and Benjamin Wallfisch, among others.
